Marshall

About the Space

There is no other space like this in Western North Carolina. Riverfront, street front, in a terrific community of artists and artisans, only 20 minutes from the center of Asheville, NC.

The building was built around 1927. It used to be the Pioneer Ford automobile dealership.

An loft/living space in the back by the river has two bedrooms, a living room and European bath upstairs, and a living room area, dining room area, fully equipped kitchen and private outdoor patio off the kitchen. There's are two decks upstairs,  one overlooking the river--a perfect place for al fresco coffee or cocktails--and a large "play" deck on the other side of the upstairs living space. Abundant wildlife visible off the river deck, particularly waterfowl--ducks, geese, osprey, herons--and the occasional beaver.

The commercial space includes a covered carport, and a two large gallery rooms with 14 foot ceilings.

The gallery space floors have been coated in clear, gloos epoxy The epoxy is clear so you can see the character of the history ad a car repair shop and artist gallery showing through. Most important the floors are durable and waterproof. They are VERY low maintenance. The carport space is new brick.

There is a fully ADA compliant bathroom in the larger gallery space. The entire commercial space is already up to code for a commercial retail enterprise.

Marshall is a town that can never get too big, between the river and the mountains. And it's only 20 minutes from downtown Asheville

The space is just a few feet from Grammy Award winning free music three nights a week, plus galleries, coffee shop, restaurants, and working artists studios.

River rafting, hiking and Appaliachian Trail, horseback riding are just a few miles up the river.

Good Stuff

It's a Family-Friendly Establishment.

Not only that, it's also: a (usually free) live music venue, a restaurant,  a beer hall, a gallery, and more.

Marshall High Studios

Marshall High Studios, which opened in late 2007, is located on Blanahassett Island in downtown Marshall, 25 minutes from downtown Asheville. The building, built in 1925, is the old Marshall High School. It consists of 28 studios, most of them original classrooms, plus the old auditorium and stage. The building has been completely renovated, but not to the point where the spirit of an old school building is compromised.

The Depot

Every Friday night at this community music and dance gathering‚ local fiddlers‚ singers‚ guitarists‚ and banjo pickers perform old-time and bluegrass favorites. The arrangement here is informal. Some of the groups play mostly old-time‚ some play exclusively bluegrass‚ and others play everything from country standards to the latest country pop hits. And it’s all FREE.

Pot Pie

Marshall used to be the commercial and cultural hub of Madison County. Then ‘the bypass’ got built and with less traffic some of the businesses fell on hard times. But the town is now in a period of resurgence.

Marshall is still the cultural hub of the area. Artists studios, galleries, music venues, lofts--Marshall and Madison County have remained a magnet for creativity for the area. Asheville has so much going on it’s bursting at the seams, and some of the best things find their way to small towns like Marshall to complement what is has always been here.
